Fees
You will enter into a licence agreement before you are certified by Climate Active. The licence agreement includes the terms and conditions for certification and the reporting and validation schedules. The most up-to-date fee structure is listed in the licence agreement.
There are also fees for a third-party verification report and the offsets and consultancy services. We do not set the fees for offsets or consultancy services.
Timelines
When you are ready, Climate Active applications for organisation, product, service, precinct or event certification can be made via the User Portal. Apply via the User Portal button in the website header.
Please allow up to 4 weeks for our team to process your initial application, and allow at least 4 months to complete the entire certification process.
Calculating your emission boundary – purchasing and reporting on offsets
Our Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standards provide best practice guidance on how to measure, reduce and report emissions relating to your business activity (organisation), building, product, service, event or precinct.
The Climate Active Technical Guidance Manual will help you complete your carbon neutral application. It explains the step-by-step application processes for each type of certification, including calculating your emission boundary, purchasing and reporting on offsets and compliance procedures.
The public disclosure statements from our certified businesses will give you an idea of your likely carbon footprint, based on businesses similar to yours.
Registered consultants
You can speak with a Climate Active registered consultant to help your business to become carbon neutral and achieve Climate Active Carbon Neutral certification.
Registered consultant training and expressions of interest
Climate Active registered consultants must have experience and knowledge of carbon accounting and/or environmental auditing.
Applications for registered consultant training are currently closed. The department is considering the future direction of Climate Active program. We will update the Climate Active website with further information when it is available.

Third party validation guidance and verification procedures
Our third-party validation procedures ensures carbon calculations are accurate and transparent. Organisations applying for carbon neutral certification must have their source data independently audited or verified.
